The Walton Area is home of the Nokuse Plantation, a 48,000 acre private conservation initiative conceptualized and funded by M. C. Davis and Sam Shine. It is designed to be both a model and a catalyst for future landscape level conservation projects, which is the only way to preserve nature’s intrinsic biodiversity.
The creation of the United States' second national seashore in 1971 and a deep respect for history and nature among its residents have helped preserve "Florida's Last Frontier."
