On October 27, 2003, Matthew joined Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative, Inc. or CHELCO, as Supervisor of Engineering Services. A year later, Matthew was promoted to Manager of Engineering where he served just over five years. Matthew now serves as the Vice President of Engineering.
He worked with Baldwin County Electric Cooperative, Alabama Power Company, ImproveNet and AZED Communications. Matthew’s background provides successful experience in telecommunications design and engineering, electrical design and engineering, engineering and sales consulting, sales and marketing in residential and commercial construction industry, and management background in engineering, operations and marketing and sales. He possesses additional experience in ensuring regulatory compliance, customer service, and training of personnel. Matthew currently manages multiple specialties within the engineering department.
Matthew is involved in the community. He is an active member if the Niceville United Methodist Church. He is on the Board of Directors for the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the All Sports Association and the Niceville-Valparaiso Kiwanis club. He is a past Chairman of BUILD, a community-wide mentorship program. Matthew is involved in Emerald Coast Emerging Leaders through the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce and a graduate of Leadership Walton, a community development program designed to invigorate leadership and to identify, educate, cultivate and nurture the Greater Walton Area’s future generation of leaders.
Matthew received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and is a registered professional engineer in the State of Florida and Alabama. He is a graduate of The Dale Carnegie Course and also participated as a graduate assistant. Matthew completed the Leadership Development Program through Alabama Power Company and graduated from the Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Matthew is also a member of IEEE, the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology.
Matthew enjoys all types of exercise, golfing, hunting, boating, water-skiing and competing in triathlons.
Matthew is married to Jamie Avery. They have one son, Deacon, and live in Bluewater Bay.
