Bio / Experience:

Melissa Wheeler most recently served as the IT Industry Specialist for Florida's Great Northwest, Inc. In her role, Melissa focused on the programmatic side of the WIRED Northwest Florida initiative. She was responsible for accessing and determining target industry workforce needs, which was done in part through her industry contacts and relationships. She was responsible for managing the organization’s website redesign, which included collecting and overseeing appropriate content and information.

Before working at Florida’s Great Northwest, Melissa was the Manager of Membership Development for the Walton County Chamber. In her time at the Chamber, Melissa created a Customer Service Plan to boost retention efforts, facilitated the Ambassador committee, managed the member database and provided technical support. Prior to that, Melissa trained, developed, and led successful teams for both Polo Ralph Lauren and Gap, Inc.

Melissa received her bachelor’s degree in Marketing along with her Masters in Public Administration from Valdosta State University. She has also completed the IEDC’s basic economic development course. Melissa is an active member of Emerald Coast Emerging Leaders (ECEL) and a graduate of Leadership Walton. Additionally, she is a member of the planning committee for Give BIG Destin and she is the Marketing Chair for the BUILD Council, which is a group that is working to create a community wide mentorship program.
