Carlene’s career was highlighted in being awarded the 2003 Commissioner of Education’s Region I Principal’s Achievement Award. This award was given to one elementary, one middle and one high school principal in the region covering districts from Escambia County to Madison County for Recognized Outstanding Leadership.


She has also served the Walton County School District as
•Administrative representative to the Walton County School District Insurance Committee,
•Chairman of the Walton County School District’s Calendar Committee for nine years,
•Administrative Representative to the District Advisory Council from 1997-2001,
•district negotiator in developing the Instructional Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for five years and in developing the first Educational Support Personnel CBA in Walton County,
•and as Assessor for prospective administrators with the Panhandle Management Development Network to school districts throughout the Florida Panhandle area from 1999-to 2004.


Carlene has trained teachers, principals and other administrators throughout the state in current educational best practices throughout her career. Most recently she has presented at the
•Florida Association of School Administrators Conference,
•Vision 2000-Region I Service Providers and Department of Education Conference,
•Region I School Improvement contacts meeting,
•Florida Council on Elementary Education state conference,
•Escambia County Administrators’ conference,
•Panhandle Area Education Council (PAEC) 2003 Leadership Conference,
•DOE representative to serve as a standard setting panel member for the Para-Pro Assessment,
•and featured in PAEC’s “Setting the PAEC” training series.


Under Carlene’s leadership at West DeFuniak Elementary, the school was recognized as a “STAR” school by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, as a “High Performing School wide Title I school, many years as a Golden School award winner for Parental and Community Involvement through Volunteering, and as an “A” school for multiple years through the Florida School Accountability program.

During the first two years in office Mrs. Anderson successfully lead the Walton County School District (WCSD) to the distinction of being graded as an “A” school district as provided by the Florida Department of Education Accountability System which is based on student achievement. The District had not previously achieved this status.

Additionally during Mrs. Anderson’s first two years in office, WDSD received its first District certification from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools – CASI. Previously, certification was only achieved individually by each school in the district.
